Angela Yu's Complete Web Developer Bootcamp is the course most self-taught developers name when you ask how they started, and after 65 hours of content it's easy to see why. It takes an outright beginner from "what is a tag?" to deploying a full-stack app, and it does it in the order that actually keeps people motivated: you see something on screen fast, then the theory arrives once you care about it.

The structure is front-loaded with the visible wins — HTML and CSS, then vanilla JavaScript and the DOM — before moving into Node, Express, MongoDB and finally React. Each module ends in a build rather than a quiz, so by the end you have a portfolio of small projects rather than a certificate and nothing to show. Yu's teaching style is unusually clear; she explains why a concept exists before showing the syntax, which is the difference between memorising and understanding.

This is genuinely good for someone starting from zero who wants the whole picture of how the web fits together, and for career switchers who need momentum more than they need depth on day one. If you code along with every project instead of watching passively, you'll come out able to build and ship a CRUD app on your own.

The honest limitation: breadth is the trade-off for depth. Because the course covers the entire stack, no single topic — React especially — goes as deep as a dedicated course would. You'll finish comfortable with React fundamentals but you'll want a specialist course afterwards for hooks patterns, state management and performance. The React section also trails the ecosystem slightly, as any megacourse must.

Compared with the obvious alternative, Jonas Schmedtmann's Complete JavaScript Course, the two serve different goals. Schmedtmann goes far deeper on JavaScript itself and how the language works under the hood; Yu goes wider across the full stack. If your goal is job-ready full-stack breadth, start here; if you want to truly master JavaScript, do this first and Schmedtmann's course second.

One practical note on how to get the most from it: don't binge the videos. The people who finish and land work are the ones who pause after each project, delete the code, and rebuild it from a blank file until they can do it without the video. The course gives you the scaffolding; the retention comes from that deliberate practice, and it's the single biggest predictor of whether a beginner course actually changes your career.

Verdict: at the $13.99 sale price this is one of the best-value purchases on Udemy — 65 hours of well-structured, beginner-friendly, project-based teaching for the price of a lunch.
