Machine Learning A-Z is the most popular applied ML course on Udemy, and its appeal is straightforward: it gets you building models fast, in both Python and R, using a library of ready-made templates you can adapt to your own data. Across 44 hours Eremenko and de Ponteves march through the whole practical toolkit — regression, classification, clustering, association rules, reinforcement learning, a taste of NLP, and model selection.

The template-driven approach is the course's signature and its biggest strength for beginners. Rather than starting from a blank file, you get working code for each algorithm, run it, then modify it — which lowers the intimidation barrier that stops most people from ever training their first model. The intuition sections before each algorithm are genuinely good at explaining what a technique does and when to reach for it.

This is a strong fit for someone who already knows a little Python and wants to see the breadth of machine learning applied to real datasets, and for career switchers who need portfolio projects quickly. You come out able to frame a problem, pick an appropriate algorithm and produce a result — which is exactly the practical literacy most applied roles want.

The honest limitation is mathematical depth. This is an applied course by design; it teaches intuition and code, not derivations. If you want to understand why gradient descent converges or the statistics under each model, you'll find it shallow. It also stops short of deployment and MLOps — you learn to build models, not to ship them into production.

For the theory this course skips, the canonical companion is Andrew Ng's Machine Learning Specialization on Coursera, which is free to audit and far stronger on fundamentals. Many learners pair the two: Ng for the why, this for the practical how. If you specifically want neural networks in depth afterwards, step up to Deep Learning A-Z from the same instructors. And if your Python is shaky, do the Python Bootcamp first.

Something learners underrate: the intuition lectures are re-usable long after you've forgotten the specific syntax. When you later hit a real problem and have to choose between, say, a random forest and a support-vector machine, it's this course's plain-English explanations of what each model is good at that come back to you. Keep the template library bookmarked — practitioners genuinely return to it as a starting point for new projects years later.

Verdict: at $14.99 this is excellent value for hands-on breadth and a fast route to your first working models — just don't expect it to make you a mathematician. Buy on sale, pair it with Ng's free course for the theory. Our editorial score: 9/10.
