FIRE CLAIMS ARE MODEL- AND TEST-SPECIFIC

PROTECTION CLAIMS · 6 MIN

A fire claim is a test statement, not a guarantee.

Time and furnace temperature are only the beginning. Identify who made the claim, what exact model it covers, which test was used and what interior limit or protected contents the test addresses.

Read five parts

  1. Source. Is the statement a manufacturer claim, a third-party certification listing, or an independent test report?
  2. Exact scope. Confirm model, size, lock and construction. Do not automatically extend a family claim to another variant.
  3. Time and exposure. Record the stated minutes and temperature along with the test curve or procedure when available.
  4. Interior criterion. Determine what the test is intended to protect and the maximum interior condition allowed.
  5. After-fire terms. Read exclusions, warranty language, replacement conditions and documentation requirements.
Do not equate labels. UL 72 is a standard for fire resistance of record-protection equipment. A manufacturer’s gun-safe fire claim is not automatically a UL 72 certification, and a time/temperature phrase alone does not establish identical performance.

How Uzi Credenza handles fire data

The catalog stores the exact claim with its source. A conflict remains disputed. A missing or ineligible claim cannot satisfy the finder’s “Fire protection” requirement. We do not convert different procedures into one score.

Questions to ask before relying on a claim

  • Can I find the exact model in the named certification directory or test documentation?
  • Does the test address the type of contents I intend to protect?
  • Does the installation manual require anchoring, spacing or other conditions?
  • What happens to the lock and door after exposure?
  • What evidence will an insurer or warranty provider require after a loss?
