Measure the unit, route, swing, and anchor plan.

A listed exterior dimension only describes part of the fit. Delivery turns, protruding hardware, a heavy door and the supporting structure can change whether the exact product works.

Record four different measurements

  • Closed exterior: height, width and depth in the installed orientation.
  • Usable interior: shelves, lock housing, door organizer and hardware can reduce stated interior space.
  • Operating clearance: full door swing, handle/keypad projection, ventilation and comfortable access.
  • Delivery route: vehicle access, steps, thresholds, elevators, doorways, corners, flooring and the narrowest turn.
Do not rotate dimensions just to make a product appear to fit unless the manufacturer explicitly permits that orientation. Keep shell size, interior size and installation clearance separate.

Before delivery

  1. Confirm the exact model, lock and handle variant. Recheck dimensions against the current manual or product drawing.
  2. Map the route from curb to final position. Measure trim-to-trim clear openings and diagonal turns, not nominal door sizes.
  3. Confirm floor type, levelness and structural capacity. Heavy or upper-floor installations may require a qualified professional.
  4. Mark the footprint and door arc with tape. Check baseboards, shelves, vents, outlets, windows and nearby doors.
  5. Choose the anchor method for the actual substrate and check for post-tension cables, radiant heat, plumbing or wiring before drilling.

Anchoring is product and structure specific

Anchoring can improve stability and make removal harder, but the fastener, hole pattern and substrate must match the exact product and site. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions. Use a qualified installer when the structure or concealed services are uncertain.

After placement

  • Confirm the unit is level and the door does not cause rocking or tipping.
  • Open and close every lock and backup method before storing anything.
  • Keep backup keys away from the container and inaccessible to unauthorized people.
  • Record the installed model, serial number, anchor method and maintenance schedule somewhere separate.
